The Adam’s Mine, near Kirkland Lake, Ontario has been approved for use as a landfill site. The long-awaited decision of the province’s Environmental Assessment Board is significant for the Rail Cycle North consortium comprised of the Ontario Northland Railway (ONR), CN, site owner Notre Developments, and waste management partners. Says ONR President John Wallace, “The revenues from this project are critical to the company’s future and, for that reason, we have been committed to its development since 1990.” With a licensed site and a cost-competitive, rail-based disposal system, the consortium is prepared to respond to an RFP for long-term waste disposal the City of Toronto is expected to issue later this year.
