Montreal golf ball recycler burns down

About 100 nearby residents evacuated from homes in Beloeil as a precaution due to smoke from the blaze


golf-ballFour million golf balls went up in flames Saturday when a golf ball recycler on Montreal’s South Shore burned to the ground.

The Mulligan International factory claims to recycle some 27 million golf balls per year, in addition to manufacturing other sporting goods at the facility.

Damage has been estimated at about $2 million.

One employee sustained a minor injury while attempting to extinguish the blaze, which soon spread out of control.

About 100 nearby residents were evacuated from their homes in Beloeil as a precaution due to smoke from the blaze.
