The U.S. National Waste & Recycling Association (NW&RA) has welcomed its new statistics and standards programs director, Bret Biggers, who will expand the program while developing new safety and performance standards, the associations says.

Biggers brings decades of economic research experience to NW&RA. Prior to coming to NW&RA, he managed similar programs for the National Association of Home Builders, the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) and the Insured Retirement Institute. Biggers played a key role in creating an FPA economic and business report called the State of the Industry Report. This report was honored with an APEX award and served as a template for many other associations’ annual reports.

President and CEO Sharon Kneiss says, “Our statistics and standards programs are an important part of the strategic vision for the association. Opportunities for growth exist with these programs that will allow us to provide greater membership value.

“Bret’s background makes him the ideal hire. I look forward to seeing him expand our statistics and standards resources for NW&RA members, facilitating our efforts to be a source for information about all things waste and recycling,” Kneiss adds.

NW&RA’s statistics program includes Manufacturer Sales Data consisting of manufacturers reporting production and sales data in specific product categories and economic industry and trend analysis reports. The monthly and quarterly economic reports use leading indicators and trend analysis to benchmark industry and association business cycles based on industry data.

NW&RA serves as the secretariat for American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Committee Z245 on Equipment Technology and Operations for Wastes and Recyclable Materials.

Biggers holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He is a member of the National Association for Business Economics.
