Landscape architecture and design students in Ontario have been handed no easy task: beautifying an urban space with recycled tires – that is, products made from recycled tires. At the second annual OTS Student Design Challenge students will compete to have their designs chosen to be implemented at the concourse of the YMCA’s central location in downtown Toronto.
The launch of Ontario Tire Stewardship’s (OTS) second annual Student Design Challenge where students will be given the details of the challenge and tasked with creating an innovative solution utilizing tire-derived products.
Participating students, judges such as Toronto architect Joe Lobko of HiGuy,Dear Guy,DTAH, Mathis Natvik of Natvik Ecological, representatives of Ontario Tire Stewardship and YMCA and recycled product manufacturers who will help guide the students’ designs. Spokespeople can speak to:
· How the challenge encourages students to incorporate environmentally progressive products into future designs.
· The many ways that recycled products can be incorporated into architecture and design projects.
· Why it is important to expose young designers to innovative, recycled products.
