Ontario Blue Box funding awaits arbitrator decision

The Ontario parties involved in negotiating 2014 Blue Box funding must await a decision from an arbitrator, according to Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO).

The Ontario parties involved in negotiating 2014 Blue Box funding must await a decision from an arbitrator, according to Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO).

The parties in the negotiations are Stewardship Ontario (SO), Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), and the City of Toronto. WDO chairs the Municipal Industry Program Committee that negotiates the steward obligation each year, and facilitates those negotiations

In a December 2013 news release, WDO stated that “payments to municipalities for their Blue Box programs will not be delayed this year [2014].”

Funding does not start to flow until June and July 2014.

“Furthermore,” stated the WDO, “in the event that the arbitration process to determine 2014 funding is protracted, we will be in discussion with Stewardship Ontario and AMO/City of Toronto to ensure funding continues to flow until the arbitrator has made a decision.”
