Lawes named exec of BC Used Oil Management Assoc.

The British Columbia Used Oil Management Association has appointed David Lawes as executive director, the Board of Directors has announced.


The British Columbia Used Oil Management Association has appointed David Lawes as executive director, the Board of Directors has announced.

Lawes has extensive experience in industry-led product stewardship and recycling, having most recently served as the Manager of Waste Prevention at the BC Ministry of Environment.

Under Lawes’ leadership, BC has been recognized for the last two years in a row as Canada’s best industry-led product stewardship program. He provided oversight to the 23 stewardship programs in BC and was the statutory decision maker under the BC Recycling Regulation. He also served as co-chair of the Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment Waste Management Task Group and as a Board Member of the National Zero Waste Council.

“This is a very positive outcome for BCUOMA as David has the knowledge, leadership skills and experience to capably manage the program,” says Dave Schick of Chevron and Chair of The BC Used Oil Management Association (BCUOMA), in a release to media.

Lawes assumes the role from Ron Driedger, who is retiring on January 31, 2014. Ronhas served as BCUOMA’s executive director since its inception in 2003. Ron has led BCUOMA to produce leading results and exemplary service to its members. Ron has also been an influential leader in the development of product stewardship in BC and across North America.

BCUOMA is an industry association that has been developed by the brand-owners of lubricating oil and antifreeze products to operate a province-wide program to collect and responsibly recycle their products.
