TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - On Saturday March 2nd, 2013, the PACT Urban Peace Program will present The Urban Peace
Festival at the legendary El Mocambo Tavern in Toronto. This unique
celebration of peace, love, and community in our city will feature a
stellar line-up of musicians including LMT Connection with special
guest, The Chops Horns, and more.
"Since the advent of music creation, it has been one of the important
connecting forces in humanity; bringing people of different
generations, races, cultures, sexes and upbringings together," says
PACT President, David Lockett. "The Urban Peace Festival is aimed at
continuing this tradition by gathering individuals for the sake of
music, as an avenue to change lives." All proceeds from the Festival
will go to the PACT Urban Peace Program, specifically to re-launch the
PACTRocks life skills music rehabilitation program. PACTRocks allows
at-risk youth to explore and express themselves through the musical
styles of all genres in a safe, nurturing and non-judgmental
environment. Over the course of a six-week workshop the youth learn to
play an instrument of choice, through covering songs and creating
original compositions, which they perform at a graduation concert.

The PACT Urban Peace Program is an award-winning, results-driven and
cost-conscious registered Canadian charity dedicated to working with,
supporting and empowering under privileged and at-risk youth, as well
as youth already in conflict with the law.
PACT (Participation, Acknowledgement, Commitment, and Transformation)
builds peace and hope in our communities by helping youth reach their
full potential in life. PACT does this through strategic partnerships
with the police, courts, probation, schools; other youth focused
agencies and community partners. PACT designs and delivers innovative
and original programming such as the LifePlan Coaching Program for
higher risk repeat offenders (14-18) as well as a number of hands-on
LifeSkills focused community service projects that provide safe spaces
for all youth (14-21) to explore vocational opportunities and build
their resumes in practical real world environments. Youth that attend
PACT LifeSkills Community Service projects (some also offered as
integrated afterschool programming) can complete
community service orders for Court and/or required community service
hours for high school graduation, but just as importantly they stay
active and busy, gain self-esteem and valuable experience for their
resumes in a team building environment, while also positively
connecting to and giving back in meaningful ways to their communities.
