A council committee cast a divided vote on garbage collection Monday as a few of their colleagues lined up to trash it.
At least five councillors now oppose the proposal to replace Emterra Environmental and Progressive Waste Solutions contracts with new ones that cost millions of dollars more.
Those in opposition argue in-house collection for at least part of the city should have been considered and could have proven cheaper. The proposed awards are worth a combined $24.7 million — $6.2 million more than the existing contracts. read more >>
