Houston-based Waste Management Inc. has opened a new recycling facility in Sterling that will serve northeastern Colorado.

The new facility was made possible in part through a state grant from the Department of Public Health and Environment’s Recycling Resources Economic Opportunity Fund Grant Program (RREO). The new facility  will allow  Waste Management to offer curbside, single-stream, commercial single-stream and drop-off recycling.

The facility has the potential to provide recycling access to about 48,000 people and give more than 17,500 households access to recycling. The facility offers the potential to divert more than 3,750 tonnes of household recyclable material from the landfill each year.
