Winnipeg homeowners could be asked to pay another $55 to $100 on their annual water bills for organic waste pickup.
On Thursday, councillors were briefed on a plan to offer three options for the service up for public feedback.
Some bashed the fee as a "new tax," while others believe it's a fair way to "finally" add curbside composting.
Public consultation is slated to begin this month on three options for organic pickup, ranging from $55 for fruits and vegetables or up to $100 for all food and pet waste.
"This is nothing but a (Mayor) Bowman tax grab on the citizens of Winnipeg and none of the costs are being explained," said Coun. Russ Wyatt (Transcona).
