To highlight the benefits of implementing the British Columbia (B.C). Safety Charter, companies who have made changes to health and safety programs and seen positive results will combine for a roundtable with leading experts in healthy workplaces and productivity.

In 2011 senior executives of B.C. food processing and manufacturing industries made a personal commitment to the health and safety of their workers by signing the charter. While B.C. employers in these industries have had an injury rate higher than the provincial average for many years, they have recently seen a reduction as a result of a renewed focus on safety programming.

“We want our workers to understand that their health and safety is a critical part of our business plan,” said Svend Feybe, President and CEO of Freybe Gourmet Foods said. “Signing the Charter and then developing new programs with aggressive targets with our staff has resulted in fewer incidents in our plants.”

The senior executive signing the charter takes responsibility for championing the best health and safety practices from the shop floor and makes them a partner in decision making in the corner office.

The charter links directly corporate decisions to creating a culture where the effective management of health and safety becomes a core value to develop long term success, profitability and sustainability.

Since signing the charter, employers such as Freybe Gourmet Foods, Tinhorn Creek and Gate Gourmet have seen the benefits of a more engaged workforce, increased production and fewer lost time incidents.

To give employers updated information a roundtable, which will include more companies signing the charter, has been organized:

Date:                        7:30 AM – 2:30 PM, November 29, 2012

Venue:                     Terminal City Club

                                 837 West Hastings Street

                                 Vancouver, B.C.
