Imagine Simon Cowell admonishing a Toronto man with a faulty plan about streamlining clamshell packaging materials. Now stop imagining, because that’s just silly, and more importantly because James Sbrolla has a much more fruitful concept in store for Recycling Idol.
Entrepreneur finalists will get the chance to pitch new business ideas for recycling technologies on December 6, 2012, on what is billed as Dragon’s Den meets American Idol.
The finalists will pitch to a well-known panel from the recycling and environmental industry for a chance to win an approximate prize package of $30,000 to help propel the business forward and win bragging rights as the “Recycling Idol”.
The winner will also have an opportunity to meet and discuss potential funding program opportunities with anchor sponsors Ontario Tire Stewardship and Stewardship Ontario.
Sbrolla, as an environmental industry veteran, will chair the Recycling Idol event.
“The cleantech sector is driving economic growth for Peel Region, creating new markets for post-consumer materials and challenging entrepreneurs to develop innovative technologies to create wealth,” says Sbrolla in a statement about Recycling Idol. “The RIC Centre is the central hub that is creating the opportunities entrepreneurs need to grow their businesses and drive investment into the cleantech space.”
RIC Centre describes itself as a registered not-for-profit organization that offers support to entrepreneurs and innovators who want to take ideas to market in advanced manufacturing, life science and emerging technologies.
The event is also made possible through The Ontario Network of Excellence (ONE), a collaborative network of organizations across Ontario designed to help commercialize ideas.
