Progressive Waste Solutions, one of North America’s largest full-service waste management companies, has teamed with Machinex for a new Material Recycling Facility (MRF) in Calgary, Alberta.

The new MRF opened on November 26, 2012.

“The entire Machinex team was extremely flexible and responsive throughout all facets of their involvement in this project,” said Jonathan Abrams, manager of waste diversion initiatives at Progressive Waste Solutions, in a December 13, 2012 statement to media. “At the preliminary design stage, Machinex demonstrated creativity to meet our processing goals and budgetary requirements.”

As system provider, Machinex is using two separate systems. One has two transfer compactors with remote power packs that have the capacity to load 1,000 tonnes per day of municipal solid waste.

The second system is for the commercial MRF. It consists of an in-feed conveyor system, pre-sort, double deck adjustable OCC screen, and a sort conveyor over multiple bunkers with a finishing trommel to end the line. Also included is a 95-foot reclaim conveyor with two raised quality control sorting stations feed a 200 HP Enterprise Baler.

In a December 13, 2012 statement to media, Machinex officials said they’re “very proud to be selected to participate in this greenfield development…”.

According to Machinex, the results of the new system are  enhanced with throughput capacity while maintaining a high level of commodity quality. There is room to grow capacity combined with the continued expansion of the Calgary region and the ever increasing demand for landfill diversion.

In the early 1980s, Machinex became the first company in Canada to design machinery for material recycling facilities.
