The Ontario Waste Management Association (OWMA) has selected award-winning editor Maria Daginis for the association’s new role of Communications and Programs Coordinator.

Daginis will oversee communications, event and association committee initiatives, and alongside the OWMA team and membership, will bolster OWMA’s commitment to a better environment, a safer workplace, exemplary service delivery and innovative solutions to waste management challenges.

“I am delighted that Maria will be joining our team,” said OWMA CEO Rob Cook in a statement. “She shares our values, high standards, commitment to membership value and goals of improving the efficiencies and effectiveness of membership services,” he added.

Daginis joins the OWMA on the heels of the Employers’ Advocacy Council, a division of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, and one of the largest trade and industry associations in Canada. Daginis also developed, launched, and branded both the online publication The Employer’s Voice and the Workplace Health, Safety and Wellness Symposium, having worked diligently with committee members and working groups on policy and legislative related submissions for a variety of workplace health and safety issues impacting employers.

“I am truly honoured to join the OWMA in this newly-created position,” said Daginis in the joint statement. “I look forward to working with the OWMA team to provide strategic communications to the association as it seeks to positively affect legislation as well as regulatory and financial policies that influence the membership and the broader waste sector.”
