The North Shore Recycling Program has unveiled "my-waste", an app designed to make it easier and more convenient for Vancouver area residents to find information about their waste, recycling and yard trimmings collection -- on their smartphone.

"Not only does this app give you instant access to your collection schedule," says Amanda Vantol, communications coordinator with the North Shore Recycling Program, "it allows you to set reminders so you never miss another collection day."

The my-waste app also includes details about what materials are collected in the curbside collection program and how to prepare them, links to recycling/disposal options for what you can't put out at the curb, and much more.

"It's a great way for people to find the information they need without having to go hunt for a printed schedule or sit in front of a computer," says Vantol. "And best of all, it's free!"

Residents of the District of North Vancouver, City of North Vancouver and District of West Vancouver can download the app by visiting app.northshorerecycling.ca

There are currently versions of the app for iPhone, iPad and Android. An app for the new generation of smartphones RIM (BlackBerry) is planned for later in 2012.

"We're excited to offer this App to our residents," said Allen Lynch, manager of the North Shore Recycling Program. "We're always looking for ways to improve our programs and provide the very best service."
