The Coast Waste Management Association is hosting a workshop and networking event on April 25, 2014, where people can discuss the upcoming recycling changes courtesy of Multi Material BC (MMBC).

The Vancouver Island Conference Centre, Nanaimo, B.C is the venue for several workshops, including:

Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB)

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business is asking the BC government to put the MMBC packaging and printed paper plan on hold, and rethink it. Mike Klassen, their Director of Provincial Affairs for British Columbia, will speak to the concerns CFIB members have regarding the implementation of a Packaging and Printed Paper stewardship plan in BC.

Regional Government Update

Regional governments located within the CWMA catchment area manage a wide variety of waste and recycling services. Representatives from Regional Governments and First Nations will provide an overview of the collection programs in their region once the packaging and printed paper stewardship plan is implemented.

Multi Material BC (MMBC)

Starting May 19, 2014, businesses that supply packaging and printed paper to BC residents will be responsible for collecting and managing these materials so they can be recycled. Sarah Stephen, MMBC’s communications manager will provide an update on MMBC’s communications and roll out.

Coast Waste Management Association – Annual General Meeting

The CWMA Annual General Meeting will be held after lunch, commencing at 1.30 PM. The AGM provides an opportunity for members to elect directors for the coming year, receive financial reports and hear reports on the activities of the association.
