Machinex has finalized a contract for a new material recycling facility (MRF) in Newfoundland, Canada, capable of processing some 100,000 tonnes of material per year.

The contract was confirmed July 18, Machinex announced. The new facility will be located at the current landfill site on the Norris Arm North access road and will be capable of processing up to 12 tonnes per hour of dry residential and commercial waste.

Construction on the site is set to begin in June 2014.

The MRF system offers the “perfect balance between manual labor and automated sorting equipment such as bag opener, trommel, ballistic separator, optical sorting unit, ferrous magnet and eddy-current separator,” the company says.

“As a pioneer in Canada as a recycling equipment provider, our company is really proud that all the material recycling facilities in Newfoundland are made by Machinex,” said Machinex CEO Pierre Pare.

Machinex has facilities at Robin Hood Bay, St John’s and the new MRF is located in central Newfoundland.

Machinex says the plant’s operational flexibility will allow processing of a very wide composition of material, while focusing on the recovery of recyclates such as paper, cardboard, ferrous, non-ferrous, PET & HDPE plastics bottles, mixed plastics, wood, film and textile.

Elevated tour platforms will also be installed within the building affording the public a safe environment to view the plant in operation.

The facility is expected to operational by October 2014.
