Lystek International Inc. has been approved to move forward with the construction of its Organic Material Recovery Centre (OMRC) located in the Township of Southgate's Eco Park, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment says.
Lystek, which uses advanced biosolids processing technologies, received environmental compliance approvals for waste, air and storm/surface water, according to an October 9, 2012 news release.
Whereas biosolids can often be sent to landfills or incinerated, Lystek transforms them into a nutrient-rich, agricultural fertilizer.
“…We have invested a great deal of time and effort educating and working with the local community to ensure the economic and environmental benefits of this initiative were and are, clearly understood. We are ecstatic about this opportunity…,” said Lystek President Rick Mosher.
Lystek officials say they hope to have the facility up and running by early 2013.
