Niagara Region has made it easier for residents to rid themselves of batteries, paint and motor oil.
A new household hazardous waste drop-off depot opened Friday at the regional public works yard at 3557 Thorold Townline Rd.
The Thorold location is Niagara’s third permanent drop-off spot. Hazardous waste materials are also collected at the Niagara Road 12 landfill in West Lincoln and Humberstone landfill in Welland, the latter of which opened in February.
A partial depot, which will accept only propane tanks, batteries and paint, is set to open in Fort Erie, potentially as soon as this summer.
The depots take the place of household hazardous waste drop-off days, previously held by the Region several times throughout the year in different locations throughout Niagara.
