“TRASHED” author Gordon McGuinty is set to lead a talk at the 15th edition of the Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo just west of Toronto.
McGuinty is planning a compelling behind-the-scenes look at environmental assessment (EA) approvals, hearings, politics and other topics at the Canadian Waste & Recycling Expo, which runs November 14 to 15, 2012 at the International Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, near Toronto Pearson Airport.

“Attractive to management at any level, the morning session will be an interactive workshop focused on leadership and how to motivate people,” says expo officials in an announcement. “The afternoon workshop covers the management of projects, from dealing with day-to-day politics to handling the media.”
McGuinty’s book “TRASHED” is an account of how business interacts and is impacted by politics, the environment and the media. He has more than 30 years experience as an entrepreneur.
"I have owned my own companies since I was 23 years old," McGuinty says. "A huge part of the things I have learned over those years relate directly to people.This can involve customers, clients, employees and co-workers. If there is a short quote...that I believe reflects my thinking, consider the following: 'One person who works with you is worth a dozen who workfor you. As part of my talks I tell a personal story of how [that] changed my way of thinking."
The 2012 edition of the Canadian Waste Sector Symposium, hosted by the Ontario Waste Management Association (OWMA), runs in conjunction with the Canadian Waste and Recycling Expo. While both events run from November 12 to 14, they are hosted in separate Toronto locations just a short drive from one another. The International Centre will host the expo; and the symposium will be at the Marriott Toronto Airport Hotel.
The symposium offers waste facility tours and more than 30 industry workshop sessions, all in addition to networking opportunities and evening cocktail receptions.

- A review of the City of Toronto's New Green Bin Anaerobic Digestions Facility by AECOM’s Ian Dickson and Joerg Blischke.
- The State of Solid Waste in Canada by Michael Cant of Golder Associates and Paul van der Werf of 2CG.
- Landfill Taxes - A European Experience – by Dr. Helmut Maurer of the European Commission.
- Alternate Fuel Process - A Case Study from Barrie, Ontario presented by Michael Jovanovic of Newalta.

The Canadian Waste Sector Symposium will co-ordinate a one-day tour of leading waste disposal and recycling facilities in Toronto and the surrounding area that transfer, manage, process and dispose of a variety of materials from both the Residential stream and the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) sectors. Visiting more than 10 facilities, the tour will also cross the border into the U.S.
