GFL Environmental acquires first West Coast waste operation

Vaughan, Ontario-based GFL Environmental Inc. announced that it has acquired The Garbage Company Inc., giving GFL its first solid waste operation in Western Canada.

The Garbage Company is a solid waste management company based in Calgary, Alberta. Adding the company’s 55 workers grows GFL to more than 1,300 people, serving more than 16,000 commercial, industrial and institutional customers and more than 875,000 households across Canada. 

“By joining forces with The Garbage Company and its experienced and committed workforce, GFL can offer our customers more services in more locations than ever before,” said Patrick Dovigi, President and CEO of GFL, speaking in a January 6, 2014 statement.

GFL operates from more than 50 facilities in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.

“Joining the GFL team allows TGC to maintain its entrepreneurial culture and continue to promote our Employee Focused - Customer Driven philosophy as we expand into new markets in Western Canada,” said TGC President Warren Graumann.
