Public consultation is set for October 2012 to determine the need for a closed composting centre in Saint-Laurent, Quebec.

Area officials are planning the development of five infrastructures on four sites spread out over Montréal agglomeration territory.

City officials say the consultation was made necessary after Aéroports de Montréal's refusal to welcome one of the facilities on the intended site located on City of Dorval territory. A new site has been chosen for Montréal's western end of the island.

In a statement, the City says, “It is important to note that the agglomeration's master plan sets out that the City, to achieve its goals, must establish organic waste treatment infrastructures as well as a pilot household waste pre-treatment centre.”

The present consultation will be held in two parts. For the first part, the OCPM invites individuals and organizations interested in participating in the first information meeting of the consultation that will be held:

Tuesday, October 9, at 7:00 p.m.
Centre des loisirs Saint-Laurent
1375 Grenet Street
Montréal (Côte-Vertu Metro)

At that meeting, the City will present the project as well as the draft bylaws required to allow the centre to go forward. Citizens will then be invited to ask any questions they would like to obtain as much relevant information as possible about the project and its consequences.

For the second part, on Tuesday, October 30, again at 7:00 p.m. at the same location, citizens will be able to express their opinions and make recommendations concerning the project

To do so, citizens and organizations must signify to the OCPM their intention to present an opinion by contacting Gilles Vézina at 514-872-8510.
