Two companies have been fined a total of $239,999 after pleading guilty to illegal waste activities in Mississauga, Ontario.

"Charges and convictions remind us all that we need to take care not to damage the environment as we go about our business," said Ontario Environment Minister Jim Bradley in a December 2012 statement to media about the fines.

Wynn Family Properties leased a Mississauga, Ontario property, owned by 1509439 Ontario Inc., to Global Haulage Inc. Following complaints of waste dumping at the Mississauga property, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment inspected the property and issued orders to clean up the waste, which included bricks and construction and demolition materials, at the property. Paul Wynn was fined $14,999, 1509439 Ontario Inc., $75,000, and Jeffrey Wynn, $30,000, for failing to comply with requirements of a ministry clean-up order by failing to remove the waste and submit related documentation, contrary to subsection 186(2) of the province’s Environmental Protection Act (EPA). Global Haulage was fined $30,000 and Philip Pinheiro, $25,000, for depositing waste on a site unapproved by the ministry to accept waste, contrary to section 40 of the EPA. Global Haulage was also fined $65,000 for failing to remove the waste as required by a ministry order, contrary to subsection 186(2) of the EPA.

A standard 25 per cent  victim surcharge was added to the fines.
