So no more free, once-a-year loads of 100 kilograms of residential garbage trips to the dump for city residents.
Oct. 29 is the last day it won't cost you.
Beginning Oct. 31, all such runs will be at the regular rates - $10 for loads up to 100 kg, then $145 a tonne for the remainders of loads heavier than 100 kg.
“It encourages diversion (recycling) and doesn't encourage indiscriminate wasting of material that can be diverted,” said John Thompson, Barrie's environmental services director. “To continue it is basically a subsidy. read more >>
