Vice-President of the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA), Cathy Cirko, has announced that she will retire on May 30, 2014, after 17 years on the job.

Cirko began her plastics industry association career with CPIA on January 1, 1997.

She was named vice-president in 2003.

“Together with the Board, members and staff, I want to express my gratitude to Cathy for her outstanding service to CPIA, and wish her much health and happiness in her retirement,” said Carol Hochu, president and CEO of the CPIA. “I’m also delighted that Cathy will be participating in the search for her replacement and in the smooth transition to the new Vice-President,” Hochu added.

Cirko’s main role with the Association was leading the plastics post-use recovery program, where she used advocacy and partnerships to promote solutions for the recovery of end-of-life plastics and reduce water pollution. She has been a vocal proponent for a sustainable plastics industry.

Cirko has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from York University. She has held positions on the Board of Directors for several environmental organizations and currently serves on two Boards.

HR Logic, a Toronto-based human resource consulting practice, is tasked to find Cirko’s replacement. Ann Tavares, managing partner of HR Logic will manage the assignment with support from Geoff Love and James Sbrolla.
