Global Electric Electronic Processing Inc. (GEEP) is now licensed to give new life to Microsoft's used software.
Microsoft Canada has chosen GEEP as its Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR) in Canada.
GEEP manages used technology and end of life e-waste. It has locations in Canada, the United States, and Costa Rice, as well as affiliations in Europe and Asia.
Under the new MAR program, GEEP will be able to access Microsoft proprietary tools in order to install a genuine Microsoft Windows XP operating system on refurbished computers. The PCs can then be re-sold into Canadian markets.
The program will take place at GEEP's Canadian plants in Montreal, Mississauga, Barrie, Calgary and Vancouver.
"We're looking to target approximately a thousand units a month initially and then grow on that number," said Bruce Hartley, vice president of business development at GEEP.
"This will position us well to service schools, corporate industries, and the end consumer with a legal machine," he added.
The MAR program is only for large, established refurbishers that can handle significant volumes.
GEEP already processes 200 million pounds of electronic products each year, with 600,000 electronic products remarketed for reuse.
