Registration is now open for the Recycling Council of Ontario’s (RCO’s) Annual General Meeting and Policy Forum on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
The 2014 event at the luxurious Old Mill Toronto Hotel will have a morning session that focuses on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). The afternoon session will focus on The Future of Waste Diversion in Ontario in the context of the in-flux Waste Reduction Act.
As EPR practices evolve and mature, common issues and experiences provide important learning opportunities. EPR seeks to balance effectiveness and efficiency, and recognize that fostering a competitive marketplace is a cornerstone to success. To support Ontario’s current and continued debate regarding EPR, RCO is pleased to bring one of Europe’s leading organizations in marketplace competition and EPR, The Bundeskartellamt.
The Bundeskartellamt is Germany’s national competition regulator and investigated anti-competitive activities by the country’s only packaging stewardship organization. In doing so, it helped break a monopoly into eight competing agencies and reduce packaging recycling costs by 50 per cent.
We invite current and future members to learn more about the journey and results from this precedence-setting case, and how Ontario can benefit from it.
